Maureen C. Pierce, Ph.D.

Education: Dr. Pierce is a Washington State licensed psychologist who earned her doctoral degree from Indiana State University. She completed her internship at the Central Arkansas VA Hospital.

Present Position: Clinical psychologist Swedish Pain and Headache Center, Seattle

Special Interests: Dr. Pierce specializes in chronic pain management, behavioral medicine, treatment of trauma, and psychological testing. 

 

Louise Berkowicz, MD

Education: Medical degree, University of Cape Town, South Africa,

Board Certified:  Family Practice; Hyperbaric Medicine; Certified Wound Specialist

Present Position: Energy medicine practitioner Swedish Pain and Headache Center, Seattle

Special Interests: Dr. Berkowicz has a special interest and practice in energy medicine.  This unique therapy utilizes different forms of energy to bring about both individual self awareness and healing.  The result is changes in the body, mind and spirit of the patient.  She assists the patient in dealing with everyday issues of life, pain and suffering to move toward living lives filled with more pleasure, joy and good health


Allen Hume, Ph.D.

Education: Dr. Hume is a Washington State licensed psychologist who earned his doctoral degree from Indiana State University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Seattle VA Medical Center.

Present Position: Clinical psychologist Swedish Pain and Headache Center, Seattle

Special Interests: Dr. Hume specializes in behavioral medicine, chronic pain management, co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, and psychological assessment and testing. In addition, he provides consultation and training to physicians, psychologists, and counselors in professional and community settings.

 

Gordon Irving, MD 

Education: Medical degree, University of Newcastle in England, Masters degrees in sports Science and Fellowship and Masters degree in Anesthesia, South Africa

Board Certified: American Board of Anesthesiology, American Board of Pain Management with added certification in Pain Management from the ABA. 

Present Position Medical Director Swedish Pain and Headache Center and clinical associate professor, University of Washington Medical School.

Special Interests: Dr. Irving specializes in acute and chronic pain management with pharmacological, non-pharmacological and interventional techniques. His interests include neuropathic, spinal and cancer pain. He publishes, lectures locally, nationally and internationally on pain related topics.

 

Lori Predmore, PT 

Education: Bachelor of Science, Physical Therapy, University of Washington,.

Present Position: Physical therapist Swedish Rehabilitation Center Seattle

Special Interests: Orthopedics, manual therapy, pain management spine care and sports therapy. She is an integral part of the Swedish Spine Care Program.

 

Carolyn McManus, PT

Education: Master of Science, Physical Therapy, Duke University. Master of Arts, Psychology, Antioch University

Present Position: Physical therapist Swedish Rehabilitation Center Seattle

Special Interests: Chronic pain and disease management, stress management and relaxation. She developed and runs the Swedish Mindfulness-Based Wellness Program

 

David A. Hanscom, M.D 

Education: Medical degree Loma Linda University, Orthopedic trauma fellowship UC Davis, spinal deformity fellowship Minneapolis

Board Certification: Orthopedic Spine Surgery

Present Position: Orthopedic spine surgeon Swedish Neuroscience Institiute, Seattle

Special interests: Complex spine problems in all areas of the spine. He is the founder of the Puget Sound Spine Interest group. He developed the DOCC project to optimize spine care. He feels that many times further surgery can be avoided through a carefully structured rehabilitation program..

 

Beth Darnall PhD:

Education: Earned her doctoral degree  at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Did her post-doctoral training at the Tucson Veterans Affairs Hospital and John Hopkins University

Present position: Pain clinical psychologist Comprehensive Pain Center Oregon Health and Science University

Special interests Research on how psychology influences the immune system and inflammatory processes. Role of mirror therapy in phantom limb pain. She also studies gender differences in response to stress and treatment of chronic pain
